The inaugural Premier League in 1992/93 season as Aston Villa miss his first title in 12 years when he finished runner-up against Manchester United. Villa got their revenge over the champions by defeating in the final of the League Cup the following season.

Chairman Doug Ellis had been impressed by the way Villa's league and replaced the flamboyant Ron Atkinson with Brian Little in 1993/94. The former Villa player led the club to a 3-0 victory at Leeds United in the Cup final 1996th

In 2000, Villa their first FA Cup final since 1957 but was defeated by Chelsea. Although Villa remains a difficult aspect to overcome the loss of several star names and more management changes did little to help consistency.

Things came to a head in 2006 when manager David O'Leary left under intense circumstances, but Martin O'Neill has been touted as the man to lead them to the table. He took sixth place finish in 2007/08 and 2008/09.

Aston Villa - with only Chelsea and Blackburn Rovers - have finished in each position in the top league.

CLUB HARITAGE

In 1874, a group of cricketers that they need something to do over the winter to see a football game in the park - born and Aston Villa. His first game was unusual in that the first half was played under the rules of rugby and the second under football rules. Villa quickly became a dominant part of the Midlands ", beating Small Heath Alliance - later to become arch rivals Birmingham City - 22-0 on one occasion.

Aston Villa was one of the founding members of the Football League in 1888 and had immediate success. In the 1890s, who won five titles in seven seasons. Villa won the League and Cup double in 1897. A week later, they moved to Aston Lower Grounds, fans called Villa Park.

Villa winning ways continued in 1900, but its fate fell in 1937 and were relegated. After WWII, the team was completely rebuilt. But apart from the 1957 FA Cup winner, former levels of success were never achieved.

A new low was reached when Villa were relegated to the third division in 1971. The fate of the team changed 10 years later when Ron Saunders led the championship. The following year, in 1982, under temporary coach Tony Barton, the club won the European Cup with victory over Bayern Munich.

Villa were relegated from the top flight in 1987 but recovered in the first attempt. Runners finished in the Premier League after manager Ron Atkinson in 1993 and League Cup wins over Manchester United and Leeds in 1994 and 1996, respectively.

2002/03 - David O'Leary replaces Taylor in May
2005/06 - At the end of the season leaves O'Leary. Randy Lerner buys a majority stake in the club. Martin O'Neill, appointed director
2006/07 - Log Ashley Young from Watford for a club record £ 9.65million
