Billy Joel's daughter with former supermodel Christie Brinkley has been hospitalized in New York after suffering a suspected overdose.
Singer Alexa Ray Joel was taken to St. Vincent's Medical Center Saturday night (05Dec09) after paramedics were called to his apartment in West Village in Manhattan around 12:24.
Caller told a dispatcher respondent had "taken pills" and "wanted to die." The paramedics found it difficult to breathe, but he called health care.A source with knowledge of the situation, said: "There was an indication of the roommate called Alexa, but could have been Joel Alexa Ray himself."
The 23-year-old told emergency medical technicians who had been struggling to breathe after taking eight pills to sleep, reports the New York Daily News.Joel Ray's publicist, Claire Mercuri, confirmed the young star was taken to hospital, but insisted he was in stable condition and being treated.
The representative declined to comment on the cause of the accident, saying only: "We are currently assessing their needs."
The singer was scheduled to perform throughout the city next week (begs07Dec09). As WENN went to press we do not know whether the show would go ahead.Rock legend Joel nine year marriage to Brinkley ended in divorce in 1994.
